King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals is pleased to host Stanford Global Women in Data Science conference for the third time in the Eastern region of Saudi Arabia.
WiDS at KFUPM workshop is an independent event that is organized by the WiDS@Dhahran team led by Ambassadors, Dr. Rabeah Al-Zaidy and Asma Yamani, as part of the annual WiDS Worldwide conference organized by Stanford University and an estimated 150+ locations worldwide, which features outstanding women doing outstanding work in the field of data science. All genders are invited to attend all WiDS Worldwide conference events
The third annual WiDS @ Dhahran - KFUPM event will take place on March 24, 2022 in a hybrid format at KFUPM.This event will feature several professional and student female speakers.
"بلهجتك" or In your Dialect challenge aims to collect and come up with innovative ideas to contain Dialectal Arabic sentences and phrases. Creative solutions will be sponsored, and the collected data will be open-sourced to the Arabic NLP research community after validation and cleaning. This is with the hope that this data will contribute to developing technologies that understand or interact in dialectal Arabic. .
The challenge consists of 2 tracks: The hackathon, which is for students and professionals in the IT fields to come up with innovative ways to collect and annotate dialectal Arabic language text. The evaluation for this track will be based on creativity, potential to grow, technical soundness, and the quality of the initial set collected based on the technique. The second track is the data marathon track and is open to the general Arab population, with a focus on Saudi Arabia's dialects. This track aims to collect Dialectal Arabic text by translating open source Modern Standard Arabic corpora to the participant's dialect. The evaluation will be based on the quality and quantity of the translated sentences.
